Things seem to be moving quickly for Marvel’s upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy, as Chris Pratt was cast as Star-Lord last week, but today brings even more casting news as now they may have found their Drax. Latino Review is reporting that Jason Momoa, who fans may know as Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones, is in deep negotiations with Marvel as they have apparently offered him the part.
If he ends up getting the role then this is great news as Momoa feels like a perfect fit for the physically large Drax the Destroyer – any fan of Game of Thrones can attest to that fact. Plus, the possibility of Momoa’s Drax and Ruffalo’s Hulk brawling in a future movie sounds too good to be true.
We don’t know much about the film just yet and story details are slim but Drax does have a personal history with Thanos–who we saw post-credits in The Avengers last year– as he killed Drax’s family, and they have often battled in the comics. It’s likely that this will play into the movie somehow.
With two down, all we need now is a Groot, Gamora and a Rocket Raccoon to round out the main cast. Director James Gunn is in London with the film already in the pre-production stages, with actual filming to begin later this year in June, so we can no doubt expect those roles to be filled up pretty quickly.
Of course nothing is official yet and this may be nothing more than yet another rumor, but the source has been known to be credible in the past and with filming starting relatively soon, all these rumors may finally be turning into a reality.
Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014. Do you think Jason Momoa is a good fit for Drax the Destroyer? Let us know in the comments.
