Just when everyone was getting used to the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio would be taking a break from acting, meaning we’d only get to see him in peculiar Japanese whiskey commercials for a while, it looks like the actor may already have another project lined up.

Deadline is reporting Warner Bros. has bought The Road Home for director Scott Cooper, who will also be producing alongside DiCaprio. Although it is still unknown whether DiCaprio will star or only produce, it looks like the story is being rewritten by Cooper as a star vehicle for the actor.

The Michael Armour novel which the film will be based on follows Creek, a war-scarred rancher on the California coast during the depression-era who finds himself entangled in a scandal when he’s asked to investigate a murder of a local man, that despite being brutal, was swept under the rug by the local police.

Cooper, who previously directed the country music drama Crazy Heart, is currently working on the thriller Out of the Furnace, which stars Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Boyd Holbrook. That film releases this fall.

I’m glad to hear that DiCaprio’s break may be much shorter than it originally sounded. Although we will get to see him in The Great Gatsby and The Wolf Of Wall Street this year, there’s really no limit to the number of times I want to see him on screen. Especially after seeing him in Django Unchained, which I believe is one of his best performances ever, I can’t wait to see anything he stars in.

What do you think of The Road Home? Is this a role worthy of DiCaprio’s talents? Is Cooper the best director to take on the project? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
