A series of intricate changes have occurred in the casting of Lynne Ramsey’s Western, Jane Got a Gun, after Michael Fassbender recently left the production due to a scheduling conflict.
Before any dust settled from his departure, though, Jude Law joined the production. Here’s where it gets tricky though. Fassbender had the lead role and Edgerton was playing the film’s main villain. Now, Edgerton will take on Fassbender’s role and Law will step into the role of the villain. Still with us?
Set on the famous American frontier, the story orbits around Natalie Portman’s character, who must reach out to an ex-lover in order to save her injured husband from a malicious gang. Joel Edgerton will play the ex-lover and Law will be the leader of the gang.
Jane Got a Gun presents further proof that the Western is one of Hollywood’s most enduring genres. After the success of this year’s Django Unchained, there has been a renewed interest concerning the untamed wilderness in cinema, with one example being comedic connoisseur Seth McFarlane, who is following up his wildly successful debut Ted with A Million Ways to Die in the West.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Jane Got a Gun has been greeted with bad news as the production has suffered numerous delays. It was actually supposed to start shooting next week in New Mexico but due to the casting shuffle, it won’t begin filming until April.
Ramsey, who brought us the twisted We Need To Talk About Kevin in 2011, will team up with Scott Steindorff and Terry Dougas, who are acting as producers for the film.
