First Trailer For White House Down Shows Channing Tatum Saving The Nation

After seeing the first poster yesterday for the upcoming film White House Down, we now, finally, have the first trailer. Competing head to head with the other "White House under attack" film, Olympus Has Fallen, this effort, directed by Roland Emmerich looks to be bigger in both scale and scope. It stars Channing Tatum as a former Secret Service agent who finds himself tasked with looking after the President, played by Jamie Foxx, when the White House comes under attack from a group of international terrorists.

After seeing the first poster yesterday for the upcoming film White House Down, we now, finally, have the first trailer. Competing head to head with the other “White House under attack” film, Olympus Has Fallen, this effort, directed by Roland Emmerich looks to be bigger in both scale and scope. It stars Channing Tatum as a former Secret Service agent who finds himself tasked with looking after the President, played by Jamie Foxx, when the White House comes under attack from a group of international terrorists.

The plot is more or less the same as what we saw in Olympus Has Fallen but White House Down looks like it could stand alone as its own film, thanks to Emmerich’s penchant for disaster flicks and flare for the dramatic. Scripted by James Vanderbilt, White House Down looks poised to be a big hit at this summer’s box office and from the trailer, it’s easy to see why.

It looks a lot like Die Hard in the White House but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Tatum looks like he’ll be able to easily pull off the hero role and Foxx should be believable enough as the leader of the free world. There’s also the supporting cast which includes names like James Woods, Jason Clarke and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Honestly, I think the film looks good and it could do well. The real question is whether audiences will be ready for another “White House under attack” film so soon after the first effort. While it’s tough to say, I don’t think the film will have any trouble finding a sweet spot at the box office. The premise is a fun one and Emmerich is usually pretty reliable when you’re looking for something to entertain. Judging by the trailer at least, I think White House Down will fit nicely into the summer blockbuster season.

White House Down will hit theatres on June 28th. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
