New Pacific Rim Photos Reveal The Jaegars’ Unique Style

If there’s one thing we can take away from the new posters for Pacific Rim, it’s that Guillmero Del Toro’s upcoming science fiction film will be huge. So huge, it seems that Warner Bros. can’t get enough of teasing their gargantuan project across the four corners of the internet. Over the last couple of days, the studio has released two new one-sheets of the massive robots that’ll be cancelling the apocalypse, namely the Coyote Tango and Cherno Alpha, which you can check out below.

Come July 12th, Pacific Rim will march onto cinema screens in style. The attention to detail in the photographs below conveys that Del Toro – a director famed for his amiable passion – has poured a monumental effort into the film’s design. Giving the huge hunks of metal individual names binds them with a sense of personality. As a matter of fact, it echoes the nose art that was etched onto military planes during World War 1.

These machines will be going up against the formidable Kaiju, which have been described as horrible monstrosities from another dimension. As science fiction would have it, the unfortunate location for the wormhole is smack bang in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, forcing the likes of Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnman and Rinko Kikuchi to board the colossal robots and take the fight head on.

The relentless Kaiju have pushed the human resistance close to breaking point and many of the Jaegars are creaking against the unyielding waves of enemies. That is, until Hunnman and Kikuchi are pitted together to pilot a legendary Jaegar that was deemed to be out of rotation in a familiar against-the-odds story twist.

Even though the plot at the heart of Del Toro’s vision may seem cliché, Pacific Rim is casting a long shadow over the summer movie calendar in terms of hype. As a completely unique intellectual property, the film will surely be a breath of fresh air in an environment that is typically smothered with sequels, prequels and nine varieties of reboots. In addition, it also provides Del Toro with a creative playground as the film isn’t tethered to any form of source material which, considering the Mexican director brought us the visually stunning Pan’s Labyrinth back in 2006, is a very exciting prospect.

Pacific Rim will stomp into theatres on July 12th. Until then, though, be sure to let us know what you would name your own Jaegar in the comments section below!
