Jersey Boys, the upcoming film adaptation based on the very successful Broadway play, may have a new director. Though Jon Favreau was originally attached, he departed when the project was put into turnaround. Now, we’re hearing that the man who will be filling in for him may very well be Mr. Clint Eastwood.

Eastwood has actually been trying to get his own musical going, A Star Is Born. Things were going well too until Beyonce, who was going to lead the project, exited. Now, to scratch that musical itch he has, the director may be taking over for Favreau.

Centring on the story of Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons and their rise to fame, the propert currently belongs to Graham King of GK Films, who was developing the film with Favreau over at Columbia not too long ago. King then brought it to Warner Bros., who then put it into turnaround shortly after. John Logan had scripting duties way back when but at this point, it’s unknown if his work will remain in the picture.

For those who haven’t seen the play, check out the plot summary below:

Jersey Boys is based on the real-life rags to riches story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons who went from the street corners for New Jersey to massive musical success with songs such as Oh What A Night, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Rag Doll, Sherry, and Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. The show is one of the most successful ones still running on Broadway. It opened in 2005 and has sold over $1 billion in tickets not only in New York, but all over the world partially because of its relatable, inspiring story of working hard and fulfilling your dreams. More so it’s the rare musical where almost everyone who sees it knows all the songs before stepping in to the theater.

Currently, there’s no word on who will be cast in the film but back when Favreau was developing it, he had his eye on actors like Paul Dano, James Badge Dale, John Magaro (Not Fade Away), Dominic Cooper (Captain America), and Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire). We don’t know whether any of these individuals are still being looked at but as soon as we hear more we’ll let you know.

So, what do you make of all this? Do you want to see Clint Eastwood direct a musical? Let alone Jersey Boys? Sound off in the comments below.
