Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion is almost here. In fact, it’s just over two weeks away and this writer could not be more excited. Though I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of Kosinski’s first effort, TRON: Legacy, it did boast some impressive visuals and imagination, which also look to be present in Oblivion.

Starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, Kosinski’s sophomore film will take place in a post-apocalyptic world, one which, judging by the trailers, looks quite stunning. In this new featurette, Cruise and Kosinski discuss the importance of IMAX and why the film is better viewed in that format. They talk about all the benefits that watching it in IMAX brings to the film and explain why they shot certain parts the way they did.

Most of the footage here is recycled but it’s still nice to hear Kosinski and Cruise discuss the format and after watching this featurette, you can bet that I won’t be seeing the film in anything other than IMAX.

The director may have made a bit of a mess out of TRON: Legacy, but I’ll be the first to admit that the film did show some real potential. From watching all the promotional footage from Oblivion, I think Kosinski has grown a lot as a filmmaker and I believe that with this film, we’ll be in for a real treat. I always love a good, original sci-fi flick and I really think that Cruise and Kosinski will deliver on that.

Oblivion is scheduled to open in IMAX and theaters everywhere April 19th. You can check out the featurette and plot summary below:
