Brad Pitt is on the hunt for his next project and if recent reports are to believed, he may have found it in David Ayer’s Fury, according to Deadline. The film will be set in 1945 and will center on World War II. More specifically, it will tell the tale of five US soldiers who operate a tank called Fury and use it to take out Nazis.
Ayer has stated that he hopes “to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience.” No word yet on which role Pitt will play but we’re guessing it will be something similar to what we saw in Inglourious Basterds, or so we hope.
Set to begin production in September, not much else is known about the film at this point. You can be sure that it won’t be on the same level as Tarantino’s Brad Pitt vs. Nazis flick but still, this one could turn out to be a fun ride. After all, Pitt is always entertaining to watch, even if he’s stuck in a crummy film.
Ayer has done some impressive stuff in the past, with his most recent film, End of Watch, turning out to be one of my favourite films of 2012. He also wrote the excellent Training Day, so he’s definitely earned some respect in the genre. Of course, Fury will see him stepping outside his comfort zone as instead of a gritty cop tale, it will be a gritty WWII tale. Still, I think him and Pitt could make for an interesting pair and I look forward to seeing what they can do here.
