Just when it seemed like there was no possible way for Baz Luhrmann to blow us away any further with The Great Gatsby, the third trailer for the film hits the web featuring a ton of new footage and showcasing some of the soundtrack’s original songs. It is also astonishingly good.
I could, and probably will, be raving about this trailer for days. The first two were exceptional, but this is just on a whole new level. It doesn’t have the surprise factor of last summer’s trailer, but it more than makes up for that in new footage and incredible music.
The narration from Tobey Maguire does a lot to enlighten those who may not be as familiar with the original novel, but perhaps the best moment is when Leonardo DiCaprio loses his cool at Joel Edgerton, silencing the room and the trailer. This preview also provides the first solid look at Jason Clarke’s George Wilson, who I’m very excited to see.
Just like Gatsby had a grand vision for his life, Luhrmann clearly had a grand vision when making this movie. I can’t wait to see that vision translated to the big screen, as I have a feeling that we’re in for something very special come May 10th.
This soundtrack is shaping up to be excellent too. Jack White’s cover of Love Is Blindness blew me away, as is typical for whatever White does, and today’s trailer showcased some songs that may sound even better. You’ll have to listen for yourself, as the music does things that there’s no way I could convey through writing, but the Florence + The Machine song at the end of the trailer is phenomenal. Over The Love is its title, and it’s just about as perfect a trailer song as I could imagine. If it’s used half as well in the film, we’re in for something special.
