Star Trek Into Darkness Releases New Character Posters

Way back in 1966, visionary Gene Roddenberry presented the world with a science fiction television series that “boldly went where no man has gone before.” Star Trek soon amassed a vast and loyal horde of fans even though the original series was cancelled after three seasons. Never giving up and never surrendering (yes, this was Galaxy Quest not Star Trek), Star Trek expanded and became one the most successful and world-renown franchises with 5 major T.V. series and 11 major motion pictures by 2005. However, the franchise's appeal always leaned towards science fiction aficionados and left many casual moviegoers hesitant about it.

However, the franchise’s appeal always leaned towards science fiction aficionados and left many casual moviegoers hesitant about it.

That all changed in 2009 though when the latest Star Trek film, simply titled Star Trek, rebooted the series with flair and panache like never before. Young stars such as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto took the legendary roles previously held by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, respectively, and under the direction of J.J. Abrams exploded into the Hollywood mainstream. The film featured better special effects, an edgy and action paced style previously withheld from Star Trek films, and humor that contributed to a very positive reception which left the audience wanting more.

This wish is almost fulfilled as the release date for Star Trek Into Darkness grows closer. The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters May 17th and anticipation will only grow as the date draws nearer.

Today, four new character posters have been released featuring Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, and series newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch. The hype and propaganda that surround Star Trek Into Darkness suggests a gritty and ominous tone to build on the excitement created in Abrams’ reboot and these posters only help to further build that excitement.
