DreamWorks Animation has gone ahead and given the green light to The Croods 2, a sequel to last month’s animated film centring on a prehistoric, caveman family. The original cast, Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Clark Duke, Catherine Keener and Cloris Leachman, are all set to return, as are Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders, who will write and direct.

The Croods has already done $144 at the domestic box office and $242 worldwide, so it’s easy to see why the studio is pushing forward a sequel. Having seen the film, I can say that it isn’t anything special but was an enjoyable one-time watch. Admittedly, the animation was pretty good and some of the scenes were entertaining but still, I can’t really see where a sequel would take us.

At this point, it seems like The Croods 2 may be more of a cash grab than anything else. Who knows though? Maybe they’ll come up with a worthy idea. I don’t have much hope though. Like I said, the first film wasn’t particularly good and there’s a whole bunch of other animated films that deserve a sequel over The Croods. Rise Of The Guardians 2 anyone?

What do you think though? Would you like to see The Croods 2? Did you enjoy the first one? Let us know in the comments below.
