After picking up Brad Pitt to lead his upcoming film Fury, director David Ayer has brought Shia LaBeouf on board to co-star. This marks the second deal for the actor this week, as yesterday we heard that he would be starring in Spy’s Kid. While exact details on LaBeouf’s role in Fury are still unclear, we do know that he will be a member of the crew led by army sergeant Wardaddy, played by Brad Pitt.
For those who don’t know, the film is a World War II actioner set in 1945 Germany during the tail end of the war. In addition to directing, Ayer has penned the script, which follows “Allied troops commanded by a martial army sergeant called Wardaddy. As the troops who are outnumbered and outgunned make a last ditch effort to drive their way in the European Theater, a Sherman tank and her crew find themselves tapped behind enemy lines on a deadly mission. Led by Wardaddy, the five-man unit finds the cards stacked against them as the attempt to strike at the core of Nazi Germany.”
According to reports, there’s still three other meaty roles up for grabs and with Pitt and LaBeouf signed on, you can expect some more high-profile talent to come on board. With production set to start this Fall for a November 14th, 2014 release date, we should know more soon.
Personally, I’m happy to see Shia LaBeouf join the film. I recently caught him in The Company You Keep and despite his personal life antics, he’s still a very good actor and enjoyable to watch on screen. Honestly, I’ve never had a problem with his work. As a person, sure, he may not make the best decisions. But when it comes to acting, I think LaBeouf is a talented individual and I’m pleased to see him join Brad Pitt in David Ayer’s Fury.
