We already know that Sandra Bullock will be voicing a super-villain in Minions, the animated Despicable Me spinoff that will center on Gru’s little yellow henchman. Now we’re hearing that Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm will be joining her in the role of Herb Overkill, the inventor husband of Bullock’s Scarlet Overkill.

What we know so far about the film is that Bullock’s character is a villain who has been seeking world domination since the 1960s. In the film, which is a prequel, Scarlet is the minions new leader and we learn that these cute little yellow guys have actually been around since the beginning of time, always aiding history’s most bad-ass villains. It’s a clever take on the loveable minions and hopefully it works out well.

As for Hamm joining the cast, I can’t say I saw this one coming but hey, he’s a great actor and this could be a fun role for him. This wouldn’t be his first experience with voice acting either, as he had a part in Shrek Forever After a few years ago. Plus, I’m excited to see, or should I say hear, the chemistry he has with Bullock. I think the two will make a good pair and look forward to seeing them work together as husband and wife to take over the world.

Minions hits theatres on December 19th, 2014 while Despicable Me 2 will arrive on July 3rd, 2013. What do you think of Jon Hamm joining the cast? Are you ready to see the minions have their own film?  Let us know what you think in the comments below.
