The Rock Is Bringing His Acting Talents To HBO

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been a busy man in the last few years, and his life is about to get even busier when he returns to the TV screen, where his acting career began. Johnson is set to star in an HBO dramedy about a group of active and retired professional athletes living in Miami. Not much else is known about the series, but it will be reuniting Johnson with director Pete Berg, who directed him in 2003's The Rundown, and will be produced by Mark Wahlberg, who co-starred with him last month in Pain & Gain.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been a busy man in the last few years, and his life is about to get even busier when he returns to the TV screen, where his acting career began. Johnson is set to star in an HBO dramedy about a group of active and retired professional athletes living in Miami. Not much else is known about the series, but it will be reuniting Johnson with director Pete Berg, who directed him in 2003’s The Rundown, and will be produced by Mark Wahlberg, who co-starred with him last month in Pain & Gain. The pilot was written by Steven Levinson, who wrote a few episodes in the first two seasons of Entourage, making him familiar with the HBO family.

Outside of cameos and voice acting, the last and only television shows to feature Johnson have had WWE or WWF in the title. It wasn’t until the last few years that viewers realized that The Rock could play more than just a meat head. He also is currently pulling off an incredible feat, having four major theatrical releases in four months, concluding with Fast & Furious 6 later this month. As The Rock is currently lined up with five films in pre-production (Including Fast & Furious 7 and Hercules: The Thracian Wars), the pilot is not set to be filmed until later this Fall. Barring any disasters, the show is likely to get a full season order and will hopefully be on our television sets within the next two years.

Personally, I can’t wait to see what the talented team produces for an HBO level show. Presumably they have enough real life chemistry to create a show that is both hilarious and close to the heart.
