In case you missed it – and really, it has not been publicized that much – JJ Abrams is coming up with a sequel to the little-seen indie feature Star Trek. This one is entitled Star Trek Into Darkness and all the art-house buffs are very excited about it.

Paramount Pictures, meanwhile, has provided the Star Trek fans among us with some seven minutes of behind-the-scenes footage of Star Trek Into Darkness. You can see all your favorites as they were perhaps not quite meant to be seen, but behind-the-scenes are always fun. They remind us that movies are made by real people and not just by computers. A word of warning, though: thar be spoilers, so tread carefully.

Facetiousness might run in my blood, but I have to admit to being a bit excited about Star Trek Into Darkness. Not being a Trekkie myself – but knowing many of them – I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Abrams first foray into distant reaches of space, where others have indeed gone before. It says something about a film that it can take someone who really is not much of a fan and have her come away from the theatre looking forward to the next sequel.

Between Chris Pine not doing a William Shatner impression, Zachary Quinto as a somewhat mercurial Spock, and Zoe Saldana kicking some serious ass, I was all about Star Trek. So I’m all about Star Trek Into Darkness. Especially as it will also include Benedict Cumberbatch as the uber-baddie, which is just … so …  great.

As if you needed reminding, Star Trek Into Darkness hits screens in just about every format on May 15.

You can check out the behind-the-scenes footage below and let us know just how excited you are in the comments. It’s OK. We’re all excited too.
