As part of this week’s PlayStation Network update, Sony has announced that they will add an “Indie Games” section to the PlayStation Store later today.

“This category builds on the support that PlayStation has offered independent developers in the effort to highlight some of the most unique gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms,” Sony’s Senior Manager Digital Distribution, Pierre Gravereau, noted on the PlayStation Blog. “This new [Indie Games] category will house all of our latest indie titles in one convenient place.”

The full content of the Indie Games category was not revealed during today’s announcement, however, Gravereau did confirm that several of Sony’s “greatest hits” — like The Unfinished Swan, Journey, Guacamelee!, and Thomas Was Alone — will be found in the new section of the PlayStation Store when it goes live.

Additionally, as a way to celebrate the launch of the the Indie Games category the PlayStation Store will offer a special deal on the following three titles:

  • Retro City Rampage: 50% discount to all from May 7th to May 21st
  • Papo & Yo promotional bundle containing the soundtrack and game: 40% discount (55% for PlayStation Plus subscribers) from May 7th to May 21st
  • Zombie Tycoon II: Free for PlayStation Plus subscribers for a limited time

Finally, Sony has promised that there will be weekly deals for titles in the Indie Games category, which means it might be a good idea to check on the new section when the PlayStation Store updates.
