Caesar the ape will be back on our screens next year in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. Forthcoming details on the plot have been sparse, and little marketing material has been leaked out by the studio. The tiny amount revealed up until now confirmed that the film takes place fifteen years after the events of its predecessor, but that’s all we know.

As the production of Dawn is well underway, the powers that be have decided it’s time to memo the world on the official storyline. Yesterday Fox unveiled their synopsis, which reads as follows:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Looking at the cast announcements, we know that Keri Russell is pegged as the female lead who may play a scientist. Judging from the last Apes venture, it’s safe to surmise there’ll be science thrown in there. The synopsis makes note of a devastating virus too. Hmm, sounds like a sexy spectacled scientist will be needed to work on a treatment.

Two new additions to the cast were also announced. Toby Kebbell of Wrath Of The Titans and The East has joined, as well as TV stalwart Enrique Murciano.

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to 2011’s successful simian reboot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes has a solid ensemble cast onboard. Alongside Russell are Kebbell, Murciano, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi Smith-McPhee, Kirk Acevado and Judy Greer. Greer’s involvement will see her shedding her usual cinema wardrobe for something more akin to Serkis’ outfit. Set to play Cornelia, the object of Caeser’s desire, Greer will be donning a motion-capture suit. Brilliant.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is scheduled for release on May 24, 2014.
