Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes director Matt Reeves has taken to Twitter to reveal the first set photo from the film. Currently filming now, this part of the shoot takes place in a forest. For fans of the franchise, this glimpse at main ape Caesar is enough to render them speechless!

The picture, which was snapped yesterday, has Andy Serkis as Caesar ON A HORSE! Wearing a full motion capture suit, he appears to be in discussion with co-star Jason Clarke. As fans of the series will know, the sight of an ape riding a horse harks back to the original 1968 Planet Of The Apes with Charlton Heston.

The end of the previous instalment, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes saw Caesar bid farewell to his human companion and venture forth into the Muir Woods north of San Francisco. As the enhanced simian and his band of merry apes left behind the city, it appears they’ve opted to stay there and wage war with humans under the vast canopy of the forest!

The newly-released synopsis from the studio presents a general overview of the film without delving into details:

“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

As this is the only set photo released we’ve not yet been granted a glimpse at the rest of the cast. But, it’s likely Reeves will publish more during the shoot. Hopefully he’ll give us a gander at Gary Oldman or Keri Russell – pegged as the two main human leads. What’s gonna be killer is the first image of Judy Greer in her motion capture suit! That one I can’t wait for.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes will be released on May 24th, 2014. You can check out the first photo below.
