Mad Men‘s John Slattery is all set to make his directorial debut (in the film world, at least) with God’s Pocket, adapted from the Pete Dexter novel of the same name. The actor co-wrote the script with Alex Metcalf and has assembled an impressive cast, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Richard Jenkins, Christina Hendricks and John Turturro set to star.

For those unfamiliar with the novel, here’s a summary of the plot.

Set in a blue-collar neighborhood of God’s Pocket, the lead character tries to cover up his stepson’s death in a construction accident. When a local columnist comes sniffing around for the truth, things go from bad to worse.

Slattery is no stranger to the world of directing, as he’s helmed a couple episodes of Mad Men. That being said, this will mark his first feature film and it should be interesting to see how he does. He’s great in front of the camera and is always an enjoyable screen presence, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how he does with God’s Pocket.

Even if he isn’t quite up to the task, Slattery has surrounded himself with a pretty impeccable cast. There’s some serious star power here and if nothing else, the film will be very well acted. No word on when production will begin but as always, we’ll keep you posted.

What do you think of John Slattery directing God’s Pocket? And how about that cast that he’s assembled. To die for, eh?
