Tucker And Dale Director Eli Craig Does What He Knows With Little Evil

I do not know anyone who saw Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil and did not find it totally and unabashedly awesome. I would even go so far as to put it above Cabin In The Woods in my ‘genre-bending horror movie’ subset. So it is nice for this horror fan to hear that Tucker And Dale director Eli Craig will return to the dark comic genre with Universal’s Little Evil.

The plot of the film is currently being kept under wraps, so any affiliation with Tucker And Dale is purely speculation. But what fun to speculate! Craig wrote the script, and with a title like Little Evil, it sounds at least a bit in keeping with Tucker And Dale.  Would it be too much to hope for Little Evil being a sequel (of sorts?) to Tucker And Dale? Could our favorite non-murderous hillbillies be back again? Seriously, I’d rather see that than anything else.

Craig has been working since Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil became a cult movie, but has not been terribly successfully. Recently, he worked on the short-lived Amazon series Zombieland, based on the original film starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg, but that project appears to have gone the way of the dodo. He might very well be one of those directors that does better working on his own stuff rather than trying to re-hash other peoples’ work.

Universal certainly puts their faith in Craig as Little Evil reportedly scored a seven-figure deal to be produced under the Universal Bluegrass Films label with Scott Stuber. Given that they’re not revealing any of what the actual plot will be, it better be something good. If they have put together a movie that pulls off the same blend of humor, horror and genre-awareness of Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil, then I am all for it.
