It’s time everybody should just quit pretending that they don’t know who Peter Dinklage is. Game of Thrones may have made him a global star but he was beloved by audiences prior to his career-making role as Tyrion Lannister.
Fresh from the news that he is going to be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, it’s emerged that he has been cast in Hop Frog, an adaptation of an Edgar Allen Poe story to be directed by Mike Palansky, whose most famous previous work is probably the fantasy romance Penelope (starring Christina Ricci).
The project has been in the works for a long time: this interview, from around the time of Penelope‘s release in 2006, has him directing two films with Peter Dinklage. One of these is Hop Frog, and the other is a “scientific love story” called Mendel‘s Dwarf. Mike Palansky’s IMDB page makes no mention of either film, but does mention a film called Rememory, also starring Peter Dinklage. Deadline reported in March that this film was also given the go-ahead, with Catherine O’Hara to co-star. So basically, who the hell knows what is going on.
So what have we learned? That there may or may not be a film adaptation of Hop Frog, starring Peter Dinklage and directed by international man of mystery Mark Palansky. At the moment the project completely falls apart the closer you take a look at it, which means that you shouldn’t get too excited. ICM Partners represent the domestic rights though, so that’s something.
Basically, regardless of who is doing what, if Peter Dinklage is involved then that in itself is a seal of quality, and enough to make many a Game of Thrones fan give the film a whirl. How else do you explain those Seven Kingdoms-themed Elf parties?
