Henry Cavill May Become The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Warner Bros. is experiencing some difficulties with their upcoming film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Numerous directors and actors have flirted with the project but nothing has been able to stick. Currently, Guy Ritchie is in the director’s chair and though Tom Cruise was set to star, he dropped out last week, leaving the lead role vacant. Today we’re hearing that the studio is so confident in their Man of Steel star, Henry Cavill, that they’re eyeing him to take Cruise’s place.

The actor is currently in talks to star alongside Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander, who are both attatched to the film. If he joins, he’ll take on the role of Napolean Solo, a role that was previously offered to both George Clooney and Channing Tatum, among others.

Not being familiar with the television show that this upcoming adaptation is based on, I can’t comment on whether or not Cavill will be a good fit for the part. What I can say though is that Warner Bros. must have an awful lot of confidence in the actor seeing as Man of Steel hasn’t even opened yet and they already want him for The Man From U.N.C.L.E., a high profile project.

It’s not that Cavill is a bad actor or anything, he’s just unproven. Aside from television’s The Tudors and Tarsem Singh’s Immortals, he hasn’t done too much and hasn’t really had the chance to prove his chops in a starring role. Man of Steel will give him that chance but again, it’s not out yet so there’s no telling how audiences will react to him.

That being said, the film is testing very well and the studio obviously thinks that it will be a hit. Hopefully they are right and if they are, you can bet that Henry Cavill will indeed be taking on the lead role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
