Interceptor Entertainment have announced that their remake of Rise of the Triad will be simultaneously launching on Steam, GOG.com and Green Man Gaming this summer. Since Rise of the Triad will be completely DRM free, multiplayer games will work seamlessly regardless of which distributor they’re purchased from. Furthermore, players can create their own levels and mods and share them using Valve’s Steamworks.

While Rise of the Triad includes a 20 level single-player campaign, the online arena combat is where it really shines. Anyone who’s sick of corridor shooters, or Call of Duty style gameplay, and wants a faster-paced, explosive multiplayer experience, should check this one out. After being able to get my hands on Rise of the Triad at PAX East 2013, it definitely brought back memories of Quake and Unreal Tournament but with a more modern feel.

There’s definitely a touch of homage to the arena style shooters of the past and Interceptor Entertainment does a great job at taking all the aspects of the original game and making them better. Some of the re-designed weapons include: Dual pistols, the MP40, Heatseeker, Flamewall, Firebomb, Split Missile, Drunk Missile, Dark Staff, and the Excalibat. There’s also an option to enable the original sounds, music and heavy metal soundtrack, for that retro feeling.
