Mia Wasikowska In Talks To Replace Emma Stone In Crimson Peak

Guillermo Del Toro's next film on the slate, Crimson Peak, has been the talk of the town as of late. Just earlier this week, the Pan's Labyrinth director revealed that the film will definitely NOT have a PG-13 rating. That response stemmed from his upcoming Pacific Rim having pared down its boisterousness to secure that all-important family rating. With all eyes on his future work, there's been further changes to the cast for Crimson Peak.

Guillermo Del Toro’s next film on the slate, Crimson Peak, has been the talk of the town as of late. Just earlier this week, the Pan’s Labyrinth director revealed that the film will definitely NOT have a PG-13 rating. That response stemmed from his upcoming Pacific Rim having pared down its boisterousness to secure that all-important family rating. With all eyes on his future work, there’s been further changes to the cast for Crimson Peak.

According to The Wrap, following Emma Stone’s departure from the project, another up-and-coming actress is in the running. Mia Wasikowska, who absolutely blew us away with her role in Stoker, is now in talks to take over Stone’s role. If she signs on, she’ll play author Edith Cushing who finds out her idyllic new husband is not what he seems. Del Toro, an admitted fan of the spooky, has made mention of his wish to subvert traditional genre rules for the film. Could her husband in fact be a closet foot fetishist?

There’s been little revealed involving the plot, but we do know from Del Toro that it’ll be “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story.” A gothic haunted house romance, there’s plenty of material here to get fans of the horror director very excited indeed. Already aboard to star are Jessica Chastain and Benedict Cumberbatch, who’ll play siblings from an affluent aristocratic family. Joining them will be Del Toro’s Pacific Rim leading man, Charlie Hunnam.

Wasikowska recently left the Oliver Assayas production Sils Maria, with her role now going to Kristen Stewart. That space in her schedule has now enabled her to take on a role in Todd Haynes’ upcoming Carol with Cate Blanchett. Carol shoots this autumn, leaving a lovely spot for Crimson Peak next year.

Production on Crimson Peak is set to begin in early 2014.
