The world had to take a collective chill pill when that season break of Breaking Bad happened. The mid-season ending was so strong that having to wait to see what happened next was almost too much. Just think of the poor Breaking Bad fans who’ve died since the last episode aired, from illnesses and what-not. Surely the worst thing about that would be not knowing what happens to Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, those fine young men.

This week, AMC released a new trailer and poster in an attempt to somehow raise excitement for the final half of the season, and the final few episodes of the series proper. It’s difficult to think of another TV show that has been quite as eagerly anticipated as the return of Breaking Bad, so this poster and trailer isn’t really necessary at all. AMC are just mocking us now.

It’s fine to admit that it’s an awful trailer. It’s OK to say that. It’s not even really a trailer, it’s just the poster with that typical announcer voice reading the tagline from the poster, shown below:

This means that the internet will be going crazy with speculation. What do they mean by “All bad things must come to an end?” The smoke could be from a smoking gun, it could be from a fire. The image is open to so many interpretations because ultimately we’re afraid to admit that it really tells us absolutely nothing. If we look deep inside and are honest with ourselves, we probably want to go into this last run of episodes completely free of any possible spoilers. That is why this poster is probably a good thing.

In an interview with Vulture, creator Vince Gilligan said that “…it just makes sense to me that bad people should get punished and good people should be rewarded”. He went on to point out that “Rightly or wrongly, there will be a conclusive ending… Our story from the beginning has been designed to be close-ended. It’s very much designed to have a beginning, middle, and end and then to exist no more.”

What do you make of this poster? How should Breaking Bad end? Do Walter and/or Jesse necessarily have to die at the end? Let us know in the comments below.
