Today, the first poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second film in Peter Jackson’s new Middle Earth-based trilogy, was released. As Warner Bros. prepares to unleash Man of Steel this week, we’ll be getting our first look at the trailer for The Desolation of Smaug (it will also land online this Tuesday). While we wait though, this poster will have to tide us over.
Though it doesn’t reveal too much, we get a look at the Lonely Mountain, with Bilbo standing outside of it. The Lonely Mountain is, of course, the lair of the titular dragon Smaug. We don’t get to see the formidable opponent himself on this poster but it still does a good job at teasing the danger that lies ahead for Bilbo and company.
Personally, I liked The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It wasn’t as good as any of the Lord of the Rings films but it was a fun adventure and a welcome return to Middle Earth. I know that not many people share that sentiment but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m eagerly anticipating Jackson’s second effort in his Hobbit trilogy.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Stephen Fry, Orlando Bloom, Richard Armitage, and Benedict Cumberbatch. It will hit theatres on December 13th in IMAX and 3D.
Be sure to check out the poster below and check back here on Tuesday morning for your first look at the trailer!
