As promised, the long-awaited fourth entry in the Super Smash Bros. series has been confirmed for both the Wii U and the 3DS. Footage was shown of both games, and while the Wii U version will sport fancy HD graphics as expected, the 3DS version looks to have a slightly more colorful and cel-shaded approach being taken, akin to Street Fighter IV.

Confirmed returning fighers include Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Fox, Pit, Bowser, and Pikachu. Two new fighters announced in the trailer include a human villager from the Animal Crossing series, complete with iconic objects like the bug net, and none other than Capcom’s Mega Man, who looks to be able to utilize various Robot Master abilities in battle, just like in his famous sidescrollers.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata also confirmed that the game’s official website and Miiverse community will be opened immediately after the conference. We will keep you updated on more news regarding the two upcoming Super Smash Bros. games as they become available. In the meantime, the game’s official site can be accessed here.
