Despite being one of the best selling franchises of all time, Call of Duty: Ghosts might not be coming to the Wii U. Infinity Ward’s executive producer, Mark Rubin, sat down with GamesIndustry International and gave them the scoop involving the Wii U.

When asked by GamesIndustry International whether or not Call of Duty: Ghosts was being developed with the Wii U in mind, he responded:

“Ha! You know that’s funny, because I don’t even know the answer to that. I swear to God, I don’t. I was trying to say in the interview [that] I really don’t know and I’m not supposed to talk about it. I’m not supposed to talk about the fact that I don’t know.”

Since Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, not just next generation consoles, the Wii U’s hardware should also be able to handle the requirements of the game. When asked if the game could perform as well on the Wii U as other current generation systems, Rubin replied:

“I imagine [it could], yeah. If you look at the hardware specs, I think it would be more in line with 360 and PS3, but I’m not sure. There could be some things [in the hardware] that bump it up a little higher than that,” he answered. “I haven’t played with it enough to know. I have one at home, and I think it’s cool; I can’t stop playing ZombiU.”

It’s more likely that the hesitation to bring Call of Duty: Ghosts to the Wii U has more to do with revenue than development. Comparatively speaking, the latest game in the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, had abysmal sales on the Wii U even though it had excellent sales on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Whatever the reason may be for this decision, it doesn’t look likely that the game will be coming to the Wii U.

As of right now, Call of Duty: Ghosts is scheduled for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
