Well that didn’t take long. Variety is reporting that a film dealing with the BP oil rig disaster is currently being written by Ninja Assassin scribe Matthew Sand. For those who have been living under a rock for the past year, the BP oil rig disaster was the second largest environmental disaster in U.S. history. Sand will be adapting the New York Times piece “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour”, which was written by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul. You can read the article here. The film will focus on the workers who worked on the rig and it will depict the events leading up to the disaster. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce.
Too soon? What do you think? It seems as if the film will only focus on the actual rig, and not the subsequent environmental disaster that it caused. Still though, the event is still quite recent and certainly still on a lot of people’s minds. 11 people died that day and 17 more were injured. Plus the aftermath caused an incredibly large environmental disaster. Should they wait a bit longer before making a movie about it? What do you think?
