Despite already boasting a pretty impressive ensemble of actors and mutants, old and new, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past continues to add to its ever expanding roster with news that rising Australian actor Josh Helman is signing on.

Although Helman is not strictly a household name as of yet, it is said that he is expected to be on set for several weeks, suggesting that he may have a significantly larger role to play in Singer’s return to the X-Men universe. What that role is we are yet to be told.

As is the case with big studio movies these days, the actor’s role is being kept strictly under wraps, and with the incredibly long list of characters that populate the X-Men universe, it’s anyone’s guess as to who Helman might be playing. Your guess is as good as ours at this point.

For those unaware, the plot for X-Men: Days of Future Past finds the X-Men traveling in time to prevent a major historical event that could globally impact man and mutant kind.

Josh Helman made a name for himself, like most big Australian actors (Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher), in the daytime Australian soap Home and Away before making the transition to Hollywood. Helman also had a part in the HBO mini-series The Pacific and in the superb Animal Kingdom, before moving on to Jack Reacher last year. He is also set to appear in Mad Max: Fury Road alongside his X-Men: Days of Future Past co-star Nicholas Hoult.

Helman will be joining returning actors Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as newcomers Peter Dinklage, Oman Fey and Evan Peters as the recently announced Quicksilver.

Based on the celebrated story arc written by Chris Claremont, X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release on May 23rd, 2014.
