Today we get our first look at Mark Ruffalo in the debut trailer for Thanks For Sharing, in which he plays a recovering sex addict struggling to build a relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow.
Ruffalo plays Adam, an environmental consultant and sex addict who finds himself stepping back into the dating pool after five years of sex free sobriety. He soon meets Gwyneth Paltrow’s Phoebe and naturally, complications ensue.
Whereas Steve McQueen’s Shame highlighted a much more darker and disturbing side of sex addiction, Stuart Blumberg’s Thanks For Sharing seems to approach the subject in a much more lighter and uplifting tone, if this trailer is anything to go by.
Playing more as an upbeat dramedy, this seems just a tad bit schmaltzy and safe for my taste. Especially in regards to the subject matter. Plus with Joseph-Gordon Levitt’s Don Jon, another similarly themed story of sexual addiction, coming out at around the same time, it’s difficult to get excited about this movie.
Although, the rest of the ensemble cast, especially a brief appearance by Tim Robbins who plays Adam’s sponsor, could be fun. And yes, that is Pink aka Alecia Moore, playing the only female in Ruffalo’s support group. So who knows, this one could turn out to be an enjoyable watch. We’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, if someone can tell me why studios and filmmakers seem to be obsessed with Imagine Dragons at the moment then that would be great.
