Sandra Bullock was in talks for a pivotal role in Will Gluck’s Annie remake not too long ago. Turns out that things didn’t pull through though and now Cameron Diaz is being called in to replace her.

The actress will join Quvenzhane Wallis (who will take on the titular role) and Jamie Foxx, who is set to play Benjamin Stacks, a new variation on the Daddy Warbucks character from the original film. As for Diaz, she’ll play Miss Hannigan, “the overbearing mean woman who runs the orphanage where Annie and her friends live.”

Diaz seems like a good fit for the film and it will be nice to see her working with Foxx again, who she starred with in Oliver Stone’s Any Given Sunday. Apparently, Sony wanted someone with “comedic chops and international appeal” for the part. Diaz easily fits both those criteria and I think she’ll make a wonderful addition to this already great cast.

With Will Smith and Jay-Z producing, and this talented cast lined up, Will Gluck looks to have a hit on his hands with the Annie remake. Personally, I’m most looking forward to the music, I’m really interested to see what they do with that aspect of the film. It should be fun to see stars like Foxx and Diaz belting out tunes together on screen. Don’t you think?

The Annie remake will arrive on December 25th, 2014. Tell us, are you happy to see Cameron Diaz in the role, or would you rathered have seen Bullock sign on? Let us know in the comments below.
