The second trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s kidnap drama Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, has found its way online and it’s as mightily impressive as the first one.
Hugh Jackman plays Keller Dover, a father whose worst fear is realized when his six year old daughter and her friend suddenly go missing. The only lead is a rundown RV. When Jake Gyllenhaal’s Detective Loki arrests the driver, played by Paul Dano, a lack of evidence forces Loki to release him. Now, frantic and in fear for his daughter’s life, Dover takes matters into his own hands.
I was hugely impressed with the first trailer for this movie. It completely took me by surprise. It promised something more than just your usual bog standard kidnap drama and this second trailer is no exception. The film looks to have a lot more depth than most and seems willing to go to darker places and ask much deeper questions than your average Hollywood thriller. Maybe that’s why it has attracted such a high profile cast.
Whereas the first trailer focused more on Hugh Jackman’s Dover, this second trailer places a lot more focus on Jake Gyllenhaal’s Detective Loki and the investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls.
Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal are always dependable in my book and with a cast that also includes the likes of Viola Davies, Terence Howard, Melissa Leo, Maria Bello and a suitably creepy looking Paul Dano, expect Prisoners to be your better than average, pre-awards season thriller. I was a big fan of Villeneuve’s last film Incendies, so I am definitely looking forward to this one.
Prisoners is released in the US on September 20th with an October 4th release set for the UK.
