Scott Cooper’s Out Of The Furnace has already built a good bit of hype by lining up a phenomenal cast including Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, and more. The movie doesn’t come out in limited release until the end of November, but today we have the first images from the film featuring Bale and Harrelson.

The first image, as seen above, features a long-haired, tattooed Bale driving what appears to be a beat-up pickup truck. The second image, which is at the bottom of the page, shows Bale and Harrelson with the former looking concerned and the latter grinning smugly. These pictures don’t reveal anything too revolutionary for the plot, at least not that I can tell, but it’s still nice to get a look at these actors in character.

The story, which Cooper also wrote, revolves around Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck) who have always dreamed of finding better lives despite the fact they live in the depressed Rust Belt. A twist of fate lands Russell in prison, and Rodney is sucked into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast. Once he is released from prison, Russell must choose between the safety of his freedom or risking it all to seek justice for his brother.

It makes sense these actors would want to work with Cooper, after all, he directed Jeff Bridges to an Oscar in his directorial debut, Crazy Heartand I don’t think anyone in this cast fancies themselves above a little golden statue. This film is releasing at the perfect time for Cooper to keep up his streak of delivering awards to his leading men, and he certainly has talented enough actors involved to make that a realistic possibility.

The rest of the cast includes Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard and Zoe Saldana. The film opens in limited theaters on November 27 before a wider release on December 6.

What do you think of these images for Out Of The Furnace? Could you see Affleck or Bale walking away with an Oscar? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
