Developer Insomniac Games has confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, a new single-player adventure in their popular Ratchet & Clank series, is in development exclusively for the Playstation 3 and is scheduled for a release sometime this holiday season.

While the last two games in the series, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, delivered some major divergences from the series’ established gameplay in order to fit in new multiplayer components, Into the Nexus looks to be more in line with prior games in the series, such as 2009’s Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time.

The game likely won’t be quite as long as that title, as it is scheduled for a simultaneous retail and digital launch priced at only $29.99, but Insomniac claims that the upcoming title’s size will “dwarf” previous downloadable entries in the series, such as Full Frontal Assault and Quest For Booty.

A new gameplay gimmick appears to be the manipulation of gravity, allowing the titular pair to jump through zero-gravity space and manipulate the force with various new weapons and gadgets. Plotwise, the game will serve as an epilogue to the story arc seen in the PS3 Future trilogy, likely dealing with the disappearance of Ratchet’s race, the Lombaxes.

A reveal trailer showcasing some of the new gameplay elements and characters can be viewed below. We will keep you updated on more news regarding Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus as it drops. In the meantime, feel free to post your thoughts on the game’s announcements in the comments.
