Jason Clarke Joins Tom Hardy In Child 44

Child 44 is quickly turning into one of the most promising upcoming films. Based on the Tom Rob Smith novel, Daniel Espinosa will be in the director's seat for what is sure to be an awards contender. Already set to star Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine and Philip Seymour Hoffman, it's hard to imagine the cast getting much better at this point. But, that's exactly what has happened as Jason Clarke has signed on today to star in the film.

Already set to star Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine and Philip Seymour Hoffman, it’s hard to imagine the cast getting much better at this point. But, that’s exactly what has happened as Jason Clarke has signed on today to star in the film.

The story will follow Hardy, who plays a “disgraced MGB agent in the 1950s Soviet Union investigating a prolific child murderer who may have connections going to the very top of the party leadership.” Clarke is set to play a man that is “accused by Hardy of being a traitor.” No word yet on how big the role will be but regardless, Clarke’s presence will most definitely be welcome.

If you recall, Clarke worked with both Hardy and Oldman last year on Lawless. Though that film was a bit of a dud, in my opinion at least, I’m excited to hear that he’ll be reuniting with his old cast mates. Plus, Clarke is a pretty dependable actor. He’s appeared this year in White House Down and The Great Gatsby and did some solid work last year in Zero Dark Thirty.

Overall, Child 44 is looking real good right about now. I can’t say I’m a fan of Espinosa (I really didn’t like Safe House) but I’m willing to give him another shot. With this cast, how can he fail? I mean, I suppose it’s happened before, where a director completely derails a film despite a great cast but for now, I’m going to remain optimistic.
