To coincide with the release of Guillermo del Toro’s latest film, developer Yuke’s has collaborated with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to produce Pacific Rim: The Video Game, a downloadable tie-in fighter that launches today on Xbox Live Arcade.

In the game, players control one of the Jaegers, the gargantuan fighting robots from the film, and take on massive creatures known as kaiju in intense one-on-one battles. Features include the ability to customize your own Jaeger with experience points earned in battle, with options ranging from cosmetic armor changes to improving the robot’s actual stats. Online play over Xbox Live, as well as local two-player modes, are also available.

Yuke’s has also announced plans to produce periodical downloadable content for the game, featuring new levels, missions, and additional characters from the film. The first DLC pack, called the Jaeger Designer, will enable players to customize the color of their machines, as well as apply various logos and patterns.

We will have a review up for Pacific Rim: The Video Game shortly. In the meantime, feel free to post your thoughts on the game’s announcement in the comments section below.
