David Fincher Wants Rosamund Pike For Gone Girl

Last week we heard that David Fincher had chosen Ben Affleck to lead his upcoming film, Gone Girl, an adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel. While several names were rumored for the female lead at that time, now we're hearing that Fincher has set his sights on Rosamund Pike. Last week we heard that David Fincher had chosen Ben Affleck to lead his upcoming film Gone Girl, an adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel. While several names were rumored for the female lead at that time, now we’re hearing that Fincher has set his sights on Rosamund Pike. If she signs on, she’ll step into the role of Amy Dunne, “who disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary.”

Though not as high profile as some of the other names that were being tossed around for the role (Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt), Pike is still a great actress with a few strong credits under her belt. We recently saw her in Jack Reacher and next month she’ll appear in Edgar Wright’s The World’s End.

So far, Gone Girl sounds like a very promising project. Affleck and Fincher alone are enough to get me into the theatre for this one but should Pike officially sign on, there will be even more reason to catch what could be another Awards contender for Fincher.

If you’re unfamiliar with the novel, you can check out the plot summary below:

On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick’s wife Amy disappears. There are signs of struggle in the house and Nick quickly becomes the prime suspect. It doesn’t help that Nick hasn’t been completely honest with the police and, as Amy’s case drags out for weeks, more and more vilifying evidence appears against him. Nick, however, maintains his innocence. Told from alternating points of view between Nick and Amy, Gillian Flynn creates an untrustworthy world that changes chapter-to-chapter.

Shooting will get underway for Gone Girl this September with a 2014 release date in mind.
