Watch U.S. Trailer For Ridley Scott’s The Counselor

I don't usually wait for the next Ridley Scott film with bated breath, but I'll make an exception for this one. The Counselor looks fantastic. With the first proper U.S. trailer landing today, I'd be lying if I said that I'm unexcited. I'm more than excited - I'm absolutely ecstatic.

I don’t usually wait for the next Ridley Scott film with bated breath, but I’ll make an exception for this one. The Counselor looks fantastic. With the first proper U.S. trailer landing right now, I’d be lying if I said that I’m not excited. I’m more than excited – I’m absolutely ecstatic.

The Counselor stars Michael Fassbender as the titular character who enters the drug trade and falls in with some really wrong people. Joining Fassbender are Brad Pitt and – control yourself now – Javier Bardem. Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Rosie Perez and John Leguizamo. Oh, and it’s written by Cormac McCarthy. You know, one of the greatest novelists of our time? Yeah.

This latest trailer for The Counselor does not show us much more than what we’ve already seen in the European trailers, but it does give us a little more to listen to. There’s that Cormac McCarthy dialogue; that sense of deep, existential foreboding; and the high likelihood that something very bad is going to happen soon. Michael Fassbender looks fantastic, as usual, and the brief glimpse we have of Javier Bardem shows him at his craziest. It looks like Penelope Cruz is going to be the calm, collected on in this film, but these things have a way of reversing themselves.

Whatever you might feel about Ridley Scott’s most recent outings, he does produce visually stunning films. With a Cormac McCarthy script anchoring him, I think we can expect good things from The Counselor. If this one does not turn out to be a masterpiece, I’ll eat my shoe.

The Counselor opens October 25th, but there’s hope that it might pop up on the fall festival circuit before then. Check out the U.S. trailer below and tell me that this doesn’t look brilliant. Go on. I dare you.
