Thanks to the reveal of the line-up for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, we now have our first look at Jason Reitman’s Labor Day. Having given us some of the best films from the past couple of years (Thank You For Smoking, Juno, Up In The Air, Young Adult), Reitman’s latest project is highly anticipated by most. As is always the case with his films, it has a fantastic cast too. Aside from Griffith, Brolin and Winslet, it also stars Clark Gregg, Tobey Maguire and James Van Der Beek.

If you’re unfamiliar with the film, you can check out the TIFF Program notes below:

Labor Day centres on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler as he confronts the pangs of adolescence while struggling to be the man of the house and care for his reclusive mother, Adele. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape all of them for the rest of their lives.

Being a big fan of the young director, I’m certainly looking to seeing what he has come up with for this film. It’s an impressive cast and the plot sounds intriguing too. He’s never let me down in the past and I have no reason to believe that he will do so with his latest feature. Though it may be hard to top his 2009 film Up In The Air, which I absolutely loved, I still have high hopes for Reitman’s Labor Day and so far, I’m excited by what I’ve seen.

Labor Day will premiere at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival before opening on Christmas Day in a limited release. It will then expand on January 10th and go wide on January 31st.
