Well, it looks like David Fincher has finally settled on his female lead for Gone Girl. At first, he had his eye on actresses like Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, then we heard that Rosamund Pike had entered the picture and was almost a done deal. One day later though we were told that Abbie Cornish, Olivia Wilde and Julianne Hough had popped up to give Pike some competition. Now, all seems to be settled as Fincher has gone with Rosamund Pike for the role.

THR is the one bringing us this exciting bit of news and in addition to Pike’s casting, they are also reporting that Fincher is looking towards Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry for supporting roles. I know, we’re just as surprised as you are.

For those unfamiliar with Gone Girl, it’s based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name and follows “a man who moves back home to Carthage, Missouri, to open a bar and becomes a prime suspect when his wife goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary.”

So far, things are looking pretty good for Fincher’s upcoming film. It’s an unusual cast that he’s going for but it could work out well. The only thing I’m worried about is the plot. It really doesn’t sound like anything spectacular or out of the ordinary but seeing as I haven’t read the novel yet, I could be totally wrong.

The film will head into production this September so expect more casting news to hit shortly. In the meantime, tell us, what do you think of Gone Girl so far? Are you happy with Pike in the lead female role opposite Ben Affleck? And how about Perry and NPH possibly joining? Let us know in the comments below.
