We had the first trailer for Insidious: Chapter 2 (reviewed here) last month, when all hell initially broke loose. It set out the stall for the sequel, and how it stands in relation to the first – Insidious was something of a sleeper hit, and another success at the hands of rising jump-maestro James Wan, former Saw alum.

With Wan’s other “Patrick Wilson gets haunted by creepy pale people” film The Conjuring only just released in the US (UK release August 2nd) and already poised to hit the $100 million mark, the speed with which he can crank out trailers and material is astonishing. It’s as if the man uses the same bland formula for all of his films or something.

Today, the second trailer for Insidious: Chapter 2 has been unleashed onto the internet, leaving internet connections both LAN and Wifi quivering in its wake. It delves further into just what the reasons are for what we’ll see in this instalment, explaining much of the backstory and showing quite a few of the jump scares, because apparently the element of surprise isn’t that important when you’ve got seats to fill and popcorn to sell with your utterly bland jump-horror.

Of course, the whole trailer sounds like it was shot in a French disco, all pulsating beats and bass drops. There’s more screaming, pointing, unseen ghoulies and an inexplicably naked (PG-13, don’t worry) old man pointing an incredibly long arm, so I guess you’ll know how that scene turns out too.

You know how the success of Alien was in rarely showing the alien? How the success of Jaws was in rarely showing the shark? Well, Insidious: Chapter 2 is blowing those theories out of the water. It’ll make a ton of money, and we’ll be no better off for it. I’m not a fan. Ben Wheatley has more horror in his little finger than James Wan has in his entire body.

Who is Ben Wheatley? Exactly.

Insidous: Chapter 2 is released September 13th, 2013. On Friday the 13th. Ooooh. Will the horror never cease?
