Below, the minimalist adventure game shown at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, will be only exclusive to the Xbox One for a set amount of time before appearing on other platforms.

Though it appeared as if Below would be exclusive to the Xbox One, developers Capybara Games blogged yesterday to assure the world that this wasn’t exactly the case. Here’s what they had to say:

Like many games on stage at E3, Below will be available on the Xbox One first. Then, after a period of time, CAPY can bring it elsewhere. It’s always been this way.

They went on to praise Microsoft Studios for being “great” to work with and for putting such a bright spotlight on Below. Microsoft has been criticized for being out of touch and unfriendly to independent developers, so such compliments from the creators of the critical darling Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP could only mean good things going forward.

During Microsoft’s E3 press conference, Below seemed out of place. In a sea of trailers for testosterone-driven shooters, its reserved beauty seemed like an act of rebellion. Nothing in the Xbox One lineup that came before or after remotely resembled it and it was what jolted me from my disinterested dozing.

We now know that Below is an adventure game at its core. One in which stakes are high and survival is a challenge. We know that it’s being scored by Jim Guthrie too. What we don’t know, however, are the other platforms it’ll be released on or when that’ll happening.

We’ll let you know when we hear more but for now, check out the trailer:
