Warner Bros. has released a new, extended TV spot for Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners today and it certainly heightens the intensity quite a bit.

Starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, who are surrounded by an excellent supporting cast (Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo), the kidnapping drama centres on Jackman’s Keller Dover, whose young daughter goes missing. Assigned to the case is Gyllenhaal’s Detective Loki, who makes an arrest but is forced to let the man go due to lack of evidence. With the clock counting down, Dover decides it’s time to take matters into his own hands.

Set to premiere at TIFF in just a few short weeks (and hitting theatres on September 20th), the film has a lot of strong buzz surrounding it and it’s easy to see why. The footage shown below is quite chilling. Paul Dano looks fantastic as the man suspected of kidnapping the young girl and Jackman seems to be in top form too, bringing that ferocious intensity that he does so well. While the film could easily become just another by the books abduction thriller, from everything we’ve seen, I think it will offer a lot more.

Stay tuned for our review of Prisoners, as we’ll be seeing it shortly at the Toronto International Film Festival.
