Crytek’s online free to play shooter Warface is coming to the Xbox 360 in 2014. Similar to World of Tanks, which was announced back at E3, Warface will retain its free to play model but will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Set in the near future, Warface is an online focused first person shooter being developed by Crytek Kiev. The game boasts next gen visuals, AI and physics based on the CryENGINE 3 game engine, which was previously used in the Crysis franchise and will also be seen in the upcoming Ryse: Son of Rome.
Warface promises players daily content updates in the form of new co-op missions and will also feature a strong PVP (player vs. player) mode. Players can expect to see traditional game types such as team deathmatch, free for all and king of the hill.
Set to launch later this year on the PC in North America and Europe, Warface recently entered its final beta phase. If you are interested in getting into said beta, you can still apply at the GFace site. Warface has previously launched in other territories such as Russia and China and has experienced high popularity already, so expectations are high.
It’s heartening to see that Microsoft is trying somewhat harder to make Xbox Live Gold seem like a better deal. In the face of Playstation Plus, Xbox Live Gold has seemed like borderline robbery at times. Having titles such as World of Tanks and Warface come with a subscription though will help make it seem like a better deal, to some at least.
With the Xbox One launching in November, I wonder if Crytek has any plans to bring Warface to that system as well. World of Tanks will be available on both systems and Warface would probably benefit from the increased power provided by the new console. If Crytek does have any plans to launch Warface on next gen consoles, I’m sure we will hear about it later this year. When we do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
