Emma Watson Will Hear Your Voice In My Head Again

Undoubtedly one of the most talented and exciting young actresses working today, Emma Watson has blossomed in her post-Potter career, taking on diverse roles in many different ambitious, compelling projects. However, her greatest challenge yet as an actress may be just around the corner, with the news that Watson has taken on the lead role in Your Voice In My Head, an adaptation of Emma Forrest’s bestselling memoir, which charts the troubled British novelist’s struggles with bipolar disorder and a selfless psychiatrist’s attempts to save her from self-destruction.

In an official press release announcing Watson’s casting, International Film Trust President Ariel Veneziano stated:

Starting her career so young and literally growing up in front of us, Emma Watson has established herself as a sophisticated and talented actress. She is perfect for this role.

Since the Harry Potter franchise concluded in 2011, Watson has certainly faired the best of the series’ three leads. The actress’s recent filmography has included a minor part in Oscar-nominated biopic My Week With Marilyn, a starring turn in acclaimed YA adaptation The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a supporting role in Sofia Coppola’s satirical crime comedy The Bling Ring, a well-placed cameo in raunchy disaster flick This Is The End and a supporting part in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming Biblical epic Noah. Especially in The Bling Ring, where Watson played way against type as vapid socialite Nikki, she has displayed an incredibly wide and powerful range as an actress. Though previously attached to Your Voice In My Head, Watson had been widely thought to be no longer involved with the film, as per a statement made by co-star Stanley Tucci earlier this year. 

The script for Your Voice In My Head, adapted by Forrest herself, ended up on the prestigious Black List of the best un-produced screenplays a while back, and Benaroya Pictures is clearly eager to get the film made, as production has already been slated to begin in New York this November. Francesca Gregorini, who previously directed Brie Larson and Rooney Mara in coming-of-age drama Tanner Hall, is set to direct. Gregorini takes over the job from four-time Harry Potter helmer David Yates, who departed the production last year.

Stanley Tucci was previously attached to the part of a selfless psychiatrist who treats Forrest while juggling big problems in his own life, but it’s unclear whether the actor is still involved with the project.

Watson has long been one of my favorite actresses, and I’m really excited to see how she will respond to such an emotionally complex and draining part. I could easily see her earning awards attention with such a meaty role, and I have no doubt that she will turn in an absolutely stunning performance, as always.
