Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Marvel’s comic book series Ant-Man has been given a new release date: July 31st, 2015.

The film, which was written by Wright and Joe Cornish, is about Dr. Hank Pym, who uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Armed with a helmet that could control ants, Pym would shrink down to the size of an insect to become the mystery-solving Ant-Man.

Slated previously for a November 6th, 2015 release, the movie would initially go up against the untitled Bond 24. However, Marvel boldly decided to put their tiny hero in summer blockbuster prime time against none other than Batman vs. Superman, which is scheduled for July 17th.

The new release date for Ant-Man means that Disney will have four summer blockbusters in 2015: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Pixar’s Inside Out and Ant-Man. Adding the aforementioned Batman vs. Superman movie to the line-up does not change the fact that the summer of 2015 is going to be absolutely mind-blowing.

Ant-Man will kick off Marvel’s third phase of their cinematic universe and with the date moved closer by a couple of months, we should be hearing some casting news soon. We’ll keep you posted when we do.

For now, tell us, are you looking forward to the film? Who do you want to see in the titular role?
