Disney & Jerry Bruckheimer Will Part Ways Next Year

The partnership between producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney has been a long and mostly successful one. It began in 1990 when the producer hopped on board a film called The Ref and now, it is coming to an end. The partnership between producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney has been a long and mostly successful one. It began in 1990 when the producer hopped on board a film called The Ref and now, it is coming to an end. According to The Wrap, the studio is choosing not to renew their “first look deal with the producer,” meaning that the partnership will expire in 2014.

Many would assume that the reason for this decision is due to the fact that the last film that came out of this partnership, The Lone Ranger, was a massive failure. While this is probably correct, Disney is claiming otherwise, saying:

“Disney will continue to focus on its branded properties including Disney, Pixar, Marvel and now Lucasfilm,” says a studio statement, “while Bruckheimer is looking to produce more mature films outside the scope of the Disney brand.”

Bruckheimer also commented on the recent news, saying:

“We have a full body of work with them. It’s not about ‘Lone Ranger’,” he said. “It’s more about the types of movies Disney is making, and the types of movies we want to make, in addition to ‘Pirates’.”

It’s important to note that Bruckheimer/Disney’s current projects that are in development are of course, still going ahead. That means we’ll still be getting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, unfortunately. Going forward though, the producer won’t be working with the mouse house anymore, which is probably a good thing for both parties at this stage.
