Michael B. Jordan is certainly a star on the rise. After breaking out in the hit superhero film Chronicle, he once again turned heads with his strong performance in this year’s Fruitvale Station. His name has been tossed around a lot in recent months, with rumors linking him to high profile projects such as the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot and even, Star Wars: Episode VII. Now, Jordan’s name is popping up in relation to another big film and this time, it’s ID Forever Part I, the terribly named sequel to Independence Day.

The Wrap is the one breaking the news and they tell us that although Jordan is being eyed for the part, a formal offer has not been made yet. Unfortunately, it likely won’t be until Christmas time that we hear something official on this front.

No word yet on which role Jordan is wanted for but it’s said to be a major one and could help him really solidify his status as a leading man, much like the original film did for Will Smith.

The Roland Emmerich directed sequel will be penned by James Vanderbilt and currently has a July 3rd, 2015 release date set. As for returning cast members, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will likely show up but Smith is still a maybe.

As for plot details, we’ve previously heard that the film will take place twenty years after the original, where the world “has learned to use the technology the aliens brought to Earth to help rebuild but, now the reinforcements have made their way across the galaxy to exact revenge on the humans.”

The film is still a long ways off so don’t expect to hear much more on it until at least the new year. In the meantime though, feel free to tell us your thoughts on Michael B. Jordan joining ID Forever Part I (seriously, who came up with that title?) in the comments section below.
