While speaking with Polygon about Grand Theft Auto V earlier this month, Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser mentioned that he his interested in developing a sequel to the PlayStation 2 cult-classic, Bully.

“I know I want to [make a Bully sequel]. Well, hopefully, you never know. There’s a lot of directions I could go with that one, it’s funny.”

This is far from the first time that we have heard talk of a potential Bully sequel (the most recent example being a brand new US trademark application for the IP this past July), so we can’t blame you if Houser’s comments have kicked off a bit of wishful speculation in your mind. Especially, since they have also got our own speculative juices flowing.

The Rockstar co-founder also commented on suggestions that they should make an adult Jimmy Hopkins — Bully‘s teen protagonist — the main character in a future Grand Theft Auto. According to Houser, that is not something fans should hold their breath for.

“I never saw him as being that level of degenerate. I saw him as a bad teen, because he comes from a tough home, who could go either direction. He’s not going to be a carjacker. He’s too white collar for that already. He’s at a shit private school, but he’s going to end up being really happy because he’s at the worst bit of his life, or being a sort of messed up white collar doofus.”

“He was an unpleasant soul, but he had a heart. To some extent you could say the same was true of [Grand Theft Auto 4’s] Niko in a bizarre way. But [Jimmy’s] not trying to burn down the school, he’s more trying to stand up to injustice.”

Hopefully, all this recent talk will actually result in a next-generation sequel at some point down the road. Out of all of Rockstar’s titles, Bully is by far one of my favorites and it is an IP that I would love to see turned into a franchise.
